Faculty of Oriental Studies contributes to strengthening friendly connections with CAMBODIA and the PHILIPPINES

On the morning of August 17, 2026, at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan – Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City; President of the Vietnam – ASEAN Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City (VAFA) attended the courtesy meetings with the new Consul General of Cambodia and the new Consul General of the Philippines on the occasion of their taking office in Ho Chi Minh City.
The meetings were hosted by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc. The meeting with Mr. Luon Bunvadh - new Consul General of Cambodia took place at 9:30 AM, followed by the meeting with Ms. Querobine Deapera Laccay, new Consul General of the Philippines, at 10:30 AM on the same day at the City People's Committee headquarters, No. 86 Le Thanh Ton, Ben Nghe Ward.


The meetings were an opportunity for city leaders to welcome the new Consuls General to their tenure, while also discussing orientations to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia and the Philippines, especially in the areas of people-to-people exchange, culture, education and training, connecting the younger generation, and local cooperation.
The attendance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan in her capacity as Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and President of VAFA contributes to strengthening the connection between people-to-people diplomacy, academic activities, and education on the Southeast Asia region. This is also an opportunity for the Faculty of Oriental Studies to continue expanding relations with ASEAN diplomatic agencies in HCMC, creating more conditions for lecturers, trainees, and students to participate in cultural exchange, research, and academic exchange programs in the near future.
The engagement with the new Consuls General of Cambodia and the Philippines continues to contribute to cultivating friendship, understanding, and cohesion between Vietnam and ASEAN member states, while affirming the practical role of people's diplomacy and educational-cultural cooperation in the process of building an increasingly cohesive ASEAN Community.
