Faculty of Oriental Studies visits and congratulates Mr. Luon Bunvadh, Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City on his new term

On the morning of August 24, 2026, the delegation from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam – Southeast Asia Friendship Association (VAFA) in Ho Chi Minh City visited, paid a courtesy call, and congratulated Mr. Luon Bunvadh, Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City on his new term.
The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Director of the Vietnam – ASEAN Culture Exchange Center, and President of VAFA. Also attending were Dr. Lu Nguyen Xuan Vu, Vice President of VAFA and President of the Saigon Business Association; members of the Executive Committee and international partners.
Welcoming the delegation were Mr. Luon Bunvadh, Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, and officials from the Cambodian Consulate General.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan, on behalf of the delegation, extended her congratulations to Mr. Luon Bunvadh on his new position, while expressing her desire to continue strengthening people-to-people exchange, cultural, and educational activities between Vietnam and Cambodia, especially within the framework of cooperation in Ho Chi Minh City.
Both sides spent significant time discussing education and training cooperation. The Faculty of Oriental Studies expressed its desire to enhance Khmer language teaching and learning, expand academic exchange activities, facilitate faculty and student exchanges, and promote Cambodian culture at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, the Vietnam – ASEAN Culture Exchange Center is considered a focal point that can coordinate the implementation of Khmer language training, foster Cambodian language and culture, and organize Vietnam – ASEAN cultural exchange programs combined with experience, academics, and community connection.
Additionally, the two sides discussed the possibility of attracting an increasing number of Cambodian students to study in Ho Chi Minh City, not only through long-term undergraduate and postgraduate programs but also through short-term programs.

Enhancing education and exchange programs for students of both countries is expected to create more learning environments, language practice, and cultural experiences, thereby contributing to promoting mutual understanding between the young generations of Vietnam and Cambodia and forming sustainable connection networks in the future.
Beyond education, the delegation also discussed cultural exchange, community connection, and people-to-people friendship activities, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries. The business members in the delegation also shared their desire to promote more opportunities for economic-trade connection and Vietnam – Cambodia business exchanges, thereby expanding practical cooperation channels between the two sides.
Consul General Luon Bunvadh thanked the delegation for the visit and congratulations, and acknowledged the cooperation proposals in education, culture, people-to-people exchange, and business connection. Both sides agreed to continue maintaining exchanges and researching the implementation of appropriate activities in the coming time.

The meeting took place in a warm, open, and friendly atmosphere, contributing to strengthening the connection between the Consulate General of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Vietnam – ASEAN Culture Exchange Center, and VAFA, while opening up more specific cooperation opportunities in education, language training, cultural exchange, people-to-people friendship, and connecting the Vietnamese and Cambodian business communities.
