Breaking with the tradition of semantic typologies of verbal tenses, we focus the questioning on what happens upstream of verbal production. This approach is explained by the didactic choice of a focus on language production more than on understanding and interpretation. A series of problems then emerge. We will thus see that it is first of all necessary to situate time in an anthropological perspective in order to be able to understand its linguistic manifestation; that linguistic time is in fact the result of a double conceptualization; that, therefore, discrepancies between linguistic time and external time are inevitable; and that the role of utterance in a temporal production is decisive. This approach to time serves as the basis for a didactic sequence which aims to be innovative, in order to verify the validity of psychological findings. The experiment was carried out with two groups of Vietnamese students. The analysis of its results makes it possible to conclude overall in favor of the hypotheses.
