Teaching plan for the programme specialization of Vietnam’s History

1. Marxist - Leninist Philosophy                      

  • The research object under Marxist-Leninist philosophy is the most common laws of nature, society and thinking. Marxist-Leninist philosophy is the world view and outlook on life of the modern working class representing the entire working population in the present era.  Marxist-Leninist philosophy thus becomes the common theoretical and methodological basis for scientific socialism (and other sciences). In particular, when interpreting the most common law of social development due to conflicts between the productive force and relations of production, Marxist-Leninist philosophy affirms that human society has a succession of socio-economic forms as “a process of natural history”. Such process inevitably leads to the socialist socio-economic form in all countries in different forms, steps and times.

2. Marxist - Leninist Political Economy                      

  • The research object under Marxist - Leninist political economy is the laws of social relations developing in the process of production and reproduction of material wealth, distribution, exchange and consumption of those at certain levels of human social development, especially the laws in capitalism and the inevitable transition to Socialism of this era.

3. Scientific Socialism                       

  • The research object under Scientific Socialism is the laws and socio-political rules in the process of arising, forming and developing socialist socio-economic form; basic principles, conditions, paths, forms and methods of revolutionary struggle of the working class to make the transition from capitalism (and private regimes) to socialism and communism. The most common  scientific theories of scientific socialism raised by Marxist-Leninism must be applied in a specific, correct and creative manner in each country, in specific periods and historical circumstances.

4. History of the Communist Party of Vietnam                       

  • The course provides rudiments about the birth and guidelines of the Party in the national democratic revolution and the socialist revolution, especially the Party’s guidelines in the renovation period.

5. Ho Chi Minh’s Ideology

  • In addition to the introduction chapter, the module contents consist of 7 chapters: Chapter I presenting foundation, process of formation and development of Ho Chi Minh Ideology; Chapter II to chapter VII presenting basic contents of Ho Chi Minh’s Ideology according to the module objectives.

6. General Laws

  • The General Law consists of two parts: State section and Law section. The State section provides fundamental knowledge about the State (such as definition, nature of the State, current forms of state in the world) in general and knowledge about the organization and operation of the State apparatus of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in particular (such as organization of activities carried out by the National Assembly, Government, Court, Procuracy).  The Law section introduces basic concepts of Law (such as law concept, nature, legal relations, violation of law and liability), basic institutions of certain law branches in the Vietnamese legal system such as: Civil Code, Criminal Law, Administrative Law and Labor Code.

7. General Sociology

  • General Sociology provides basic concepts and two typical approaches of sociology (macro and micro) as well as relations between individuals, social groups and social institutions.  Through mastering the following matters: 1/ Approach and characteristics of sociology, distinction of sociology with natural sciences and with other social sciences; 2/ Introduction to theories and methods of sociological research; 3/ Introduction to basic concepts such as culture, social structure and social diversity; 4/ Socialization and properties of socialization; 5/ Structure of groups and social organizations as well as types of groups and organizations; 6/ Standard deviation and social control; 7/ Social inequality and social stratification: dimensions and characteristics; 8/ Social institutions: basic institutions and characteristics.

8. Practice on Vietnamese Texts

  • The course includes the following contents: 1/ Overview of Vietnamese texts; 2/ Practice on text analysis; 3/ Practice on text creating; 4/ Practice on drafting scientific documents; 4/ Practice on drafting administrative documents.

9. General Anthropology

  •  General Anthropology presents an overview of human science studies, from biological to cultural and social human.

10. General Psychology

  • General Psychology provides basic and fundamental knowledge of psychological science such as study object, tasks and research methods in psychology, identification of psychological phenomena of human, knowledge of diversity in human psychological life, mastering rules of forming psychological phenomena, awareness of objective and subjective factors regulating psychology, recognition of the important role of education, activity and relation operation in small groups for personality development, understanding the relation between various psychological phenomena in the unified psychological life of human.

11. Statistics in social sciences

  • The course (including lectures, discussions and assignments) aims to provide basic concepts and techniques of statistics to help students process results obtained from field surveys and studies in various fields such as sociology, anthropology, social work, journalism and geography.  

12. General Economics

  • General Economics provides basic knowledge about market activities through understanding the demand-supply model, consumer choice theory as well as corporate behavior in markets (perfectly competitive markets and monopoly markets).  In addition, the course also provides rudiments about macroeconomics: basic macroeconomic indicators, how to form interest rates in the monetary market, effects of monetary policy, formation of exchange rate on the foreign exchange market, how the government can intervene in the foreign exchange market in each exchange rate mechanism.
