Introduction of the Postgraduate Training Program

Every year, the Faculty of History admits more than 100 graduate students and PhD candidates (one of the departments that has a large number of undergraduate, graduate students and PhD candidates of the university).

Postgraduate training programs at the Faculty of History

Master's programs:  Vietnam History, World History, History of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Archaeology

Doctoral programs: Vietnam History, World History, Archaeology

Pre-Doctoral Programs:  Vietnam History, World History, Archaeology

Objectives of the master's programs

a. Further improve undergraduate-level scientific knowledge on history of Vietnam, enhance in-depth knowledge of some key areas of national history as well as interdisciplinary knowledge on issues related to history of Vietnam; approach and explain discussions on historical issues faced by Vietnamese historians community

b. Improve the ability to self-study historical science, especially historical issues in Vietnam, meet the country's socio-economic needs and ability to integrate internationally.

c. Train the ability to independently research and master the selected field, the ability to carry out work and professional activities in respected field.

Objectives of the doctoral programs

a. Train high-skilled staff that is capable in theory, research practice, teaching and specialized scientific activities in Vietnam history; has the capacity to work and conduct independent, creative research, and the ability to detect and solve arising problems in the field of social sciences and humanities in general, and Vietnam history in particular.

b. Improve the quality of training to meet the demand for high-quality human resources for the development of Ho Chi Minh City, the southern key economic zone and surrounding areas; contribute to strengthening the scale of doctoral training followed the direction of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. and the Ministry of Education and Training.

c. From doctoral level to expert in the field of history, to understand specialized knowledge, have the ability to independently study, teach Vietnam history and solve scientific problems faced in the fields of history, culture, conservation, appraisal, social criticism.

The top goal of the Faculty of History is to provide students with a professional, dynamic academic environment that stimulates the exploration and creativity of students. These factors are achieved by a team of 31 faculties and staff (as of May 2020) (including 7 professors, associate professors, 12 PhD's, 10 masters, 2 bachelors) trained in Vietnam and other countries such as USA, Russia, China, Taiwan, India, Singapore,... Many teachers have practiced and lectured at universities in the United States and Japan. In addition, there are 40 visiting lecturers in the University of Social Sciences and Technology, VNU-HCM and some other universities in the country participate in teaching and training programs at the Faculty.

Since the inauguration, the Faculty of History has trained over 600 Masters, over 100 PhDs. Graduates from the Faculty of History are able to work in a variety of social life areas; such as working in the government at all levels (from the central to the local); working as researcher and teaching staff at universities, colleges, schools, training and research institutes; working in publishing houses, socio-political-economic-diplomatic organizations, business enterprises,...
