International Seminar "Economic transformation and Prosperity from gender perspectives”

At 8:00 a.m. on September 8, 2023, the International Seminar program "Economic transformation and Prosperity from gender perspectives" officially took place in room D201- D202, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (10-12 Dinh Tien Hoang, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). The program is organized by the Faculty of Anthropology (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) and the French Institute in Ho Chi Minh City (French Institute in Vietnam).

The program was attended by a large number of domestic and foreign scholars. On the international scholars side, the program was attended by Prof. Dr. Dominique Méda (Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Social Sciences and President of the Veblen Institute), Dr. Nicolas Lainez (French IRD Institute for Development Studies). On the side of domestic scholars, the program was attended by Dr. Le Hong Phuoc – Deputy Head of the Department of French Literature, PhD. MSc. Pham Thi Thuy Trang – Deputy Head of the Department of Sociology, PhD. Tran Nguyen Khang - Lecturer of International Relations Department. On the side of the Organizing Committee, the Faculty of Anthropology had the participation of Dr. Truong Thi Thu Hang – Head of the Department of Anthropology, PhD. Pham Ngoc Thuy Vi – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Anthropology, MSc. Le Thi Ngoc Phuc – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Anthropology, Associate Professor. Dr. Truong Van Mon - Lecturer of Anthropology Department, MSc. Pham Thanh Thoi - Deputy Director of the Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asian Studies.

The program received the attention of scholars, researchers, lecturers, graduate students, graduate students and students inside and outside the school with more than 150 registrations and 120 people attending.

Within the framework of the discussion, three topics were presented:

- Topic "Economic development and prosperity from a gender perspective" by author Dominique Méda.

- Topic "Relationship Work: Revisiting the cultural interpretation of sex work in Vietnam" by author Nicolas Lainez.

- Topic "Capitalization, social transformation and the role of women: Approach to development in matriarchal society in the Central Highlands (case of K'Ho-Chill people in Lam Dong)" by author Pham Thanh Thoi.

After each topic was presented, the audience gave positive feedback and asked questions to the speaker. The discussion took place enthusiastically with sharing activities and discussion of many issues related to the topics. Through that, the researcher and the guests together came up with a number of recommendations and proposals to solve contemporary issues of gender, economy, GDP and national prosperity.

The program took place successfully and ended at 11:30 the same day. The International Seminar marked an effectively organized scientific research and international cooperation exchange activity of the Faculty of Anthropology to welcome the 2023-2024 school year.
