Scientific seminar on applying ai for literature review and data analysis in social science research

On the afternoon of December 5, 2025, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (10–12 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the Sociology Program under the Faculty of Social Work - Anthropology - Sociology successfully organized a scientific seminar titled “Applying AI for Literature Review and Data Analysis in Social Science Research,” presented by Prof. Nguyen Tuan Anh.

The event was attended by the Board of Deans of the Faculty of Social Work - Anthropology - Sociology; the Head of the Sociology Program; as well as a large number of lecturers, researchers, doctoral candidates, graduate students, undergraduate students, and guests from various universities and research institutes across the city.
At the opening of the seminar, Dr. Tran Anh Tien, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work - Anthropology - Sociology, delivered welcoming remarks to the speaker and participants, while also highlighting the importance of applying AI in scientific research.

In the first part of the presentation, Prof. Nguyen Tuan Anh focused on analyzing how AI is transforming traditional approaches to literature review. He emphasized that AI does not replace the researcher’s critical thinking but instead serves as “a powerful assistant” that helps save time and broaden access to knowledge.

In the second part of the seminar, Prof. Nguyen Tuan Anh demonstrated how AI can support data analysis in social science research. Through several practical examples from Vietnam, he emphasized that AI accelerates the processing of survey data while still ensuring reliability when its use is guided and supervised by the researcher.
The seminar featured lively exchanges, opening up new perspectives on the potential applications of artificial intelligence in academic research. At the end of the presentation, numerous questions were raised regarding academic ethics, the risks of overreliance on AI, and ways to integrate AI into the process of writing theses and dissertations. Prof. Nguyen Tuan Anh devoted considerable time to clarifying essential principles for the responsible use of AI.
He emphasized that, in the coming years, AI literacy will become an indispensable skill for social science researchers. He also noted that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCMC, should continue expanding training activities and seminars to support students and lecturers in effectively utilizing emerging technologies.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. Tran Nguyen Tưong Oanh, Head of the Sociology Program expressed her thanks to the speaker, Prof. Nguyen Tuan Anh.

The scientific seminar not only provided valuable academic insights but also reaffirmed the pioneering role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCMC, in promoting innovation in research methodologies.
