The 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies themed “Researching and teaching Vietnamese Studies and the Vietnamese language in a transcultural context”

On the morning of December 21, 2024, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Hanoi, successfully organized the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies, themed “Researching and teaching Vietnamese Studies and the Vietnamese language in a transcultural context”. The conference gathered many researchers and lecturers from both home and abroad.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Pham Tan Ha - Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, stated that organizing scientific conferences on Vietnamese Studies has become a regular activity for the two universities and has evolved into a prestigious academic forum for domestic and international scholars. This conference aims to meet the expectations of those who love the Vietnamese language; love the country and people of Vietnam; and those who wish to explore the depths of Vietnamese history, culture, and society, joining hands to contribute to the solid progress and new achievements in the training and research of the field of Vietnamese Studies.

Co-delivering the opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh - Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Hanoi, emphasized that the conference serves as evidence of the vitality of Vietnamese Studies, including issues related to the Vietnamese language and Vietnamese research in general, viewed through the lens of the "transcultural" space. The International Conference on Vietnamese Studies also acts as a foundation for developing a research and training network for Vietnamese Studies both domestically and internationally, creating sustainable connections among scientists and educators.

Following the opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Ngoc Thu, Head of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, presented the introductory report covering the contents to be discussed at the conference. The presentations not only reflect the strong development of Vietnamese Studies but also open up new research directions, affirming the role of the field in the context of international integration. This is a clear demonstration of the vitality and dynamism of Vietnamese Studies, while also contributing to enhancing the status of the Vietnamese language and culture in the international arena, building a bridge of knowledge and culture between Vietnam and the world.

After the plenary session, the sub-committees conducted sessions covering 04 main topics:

- Vietnamese Studies worldwide

- Vietnamese Culture - Literature - Art

- Vietnamese Linguistics and Vietnamese teaching methodology

- Vietnamese History - Society

The sub-committee sessions featured 20 research papers presented by domestic and international scientists, attracting significant interest and academic exchange.
