Dr. Nguyen Nu Nguyet Anh Participates in International Workshop on “Regionalization on Migration and Agriculture Development”

Dr. Nguyen Nu Nguyet Anh, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, participated in the international conference “Regionalization on Migration and Agriculture Development”. The workshop was held from February 28th to March 1st, 2025, in Yangon, Myanmar, organized by Mawlamyine University. The workshop, part of the 5th Mekong-Republic of Korea Cooperation (MKCF) project, brought together experts, researchers, and representatives from four Mekong sub-regional countries: Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Migration has become a crucial aspect of global development, particularly in agriculture. As rural communities face challenges such as climate change, economic downturns, and food insecurity, migration can have both positive and negative impacts. While it can introduce new farming techniques, promote technology transfer, and facilitate agricultural investment, it also poses challenges like labor shortages, increased labor costs, and the loss of skilled agricultural workforce. This workshop aimed to foster a regional approach to studying the relationship between migration and agricultural development, seeking solutions to optimize the benefits of migration while mitigating its negative impacts on the Mekong region.

As an expert in sociology and migration studies, Dr. Nguyen Nu Nguyet Anh was one of two Vietnamese representatives who participated in discussions about outward migration from Vietnam and its impact on agriculture. Additionally, Dr. Nguyet Anh attempt to establish networks and plan future collaborations in this field with representatives from other participating universities.
