Faculty of Sociology Volunteers Join “Connecting Hands to the Sea” Program in Long Hoa Border Commune
Following the success of the mock trial themed “Legal Nets on the Waves,” the Faculty of Sociology Youth Union, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU-HCM, in collaboration with Long Hoa Border Guard Station, continued with the volunteer activity “Connecting Hands to the Sea” and a legal training session on border protection in the afternoon program.
The event was honored to welcome Lieutenant Do Xuan Hanh – Deputy Political Officer of Long Hoa Border Guard Station, and Mr. Nguyen Viet Anh – Deputy Secretary of the Faculty of Sociology Youth Union.
Motivated by a deep empathy for underprivileged children living in border areas, the organizing team awarded scholarships to support local students on their educational journeys and future development. At the same time, the border law training session aimed to enhance legal awareness and knowledge among the local community, contributing to a stronger foundation of civil defense at the grassroots level.
The “Connecting Hands to the Sea” activity is part of a six-part series titled “The Homeland Seen from the Sea,” organized by the Faculty of Sociology Youth Union. This initiative seeks to raise awareness of national maritime sovereignty, instill patriotism, and foster a sense of civic duty and social contribution among students.
The six main activities in the series include:

Media campaign honoring naval officers and soldiers – “Guardians of the Nation’s Image.”

Awareness campaign on Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty – “Golden Sea, Silver Sea.”

Educational tour of the Maritime Exhibition Room at USSH, VNU-HCM – “Sea and Islands in the Heart of Humanities.”

Mock trial on maritime law – “Legal Nets on the Waves.”

Volunteer activity in border and coastal communes – “Connecting Hands to the Sea.”

A letter-writing initiative expressing thoughts on protecting national sovereignty – “Letters from the Frontline.”
Through meaningful and practical activities, the program not only provides in-depth knowledge about maritime issues but also nurtures a strong sense of national pride and responsibility among the younger generation.
