On the morning of December 5, 2025, at Room D.201–202 (Saigon campus), the Faculty of Social Work – Anthropology – Sociology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, held a scientific conference titled “Sociology and Sustainable Development: Accompanying Communities”. The conference is a key academic activity in the series of events leading up to the 30th anniversary of the Sociology Program (1995–2025), reaffirming the Faculty’s commitment to engaging with communities and contributing to sustainable social development.

The conference attracted the participation of scholars, lecturers, doctoral candidates, graduate students, and undergraduates with an interest in the social sciences. The opening session took place in a dignified atmosphere, featuring a statement of purpose, an introduction of delegates, and an outline of the conference’s main themes.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Trần Anh Tiến, Head of the Faculty of Social Work – Anthropology – Sociology, emphasized the role of sociological knowledge in the context of a rapidly changing society. He also highlighted the significance of academic activities in affirming the reputation and research capacity of the program over 30 years of development and growth.

At the conference, presenters delivered a wide range of papers on topics such as sustainable development, contemporary social change, social governance, the integration of vulnerable groups, urban youth, and social media. The presentations showcased diverse methodological approaches, rich empirical data, and a high level of practical applicability.

The discussion session received many comments and exchanges from delegates and participants, reflecting strong interest in sociological issues in the current context. Particular attention was given to building a sociology that is deeply rooted in the Vietnamese context, with a distinct local academic identity, rather than merely adopting and applying theories and methods from countries with long-established sociological traditions. These exchanges helped broaden interdisciplinary approaches and laid the groundwork for more in-depth research in the future.

The conference concluded with positive feedback from participants, not only regarding its academic content but also the spirit of connection between different generations within the Sociology community. This event served as an important highlight in the lead-up to the 30th Anniversary Ceremony of the Sociology Program, to be held on December 6, 2025.
