Delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City attends the 21st AsTEN Presidents' Meeting and the 2026 ASEAN Teacher Education Conference in the Philippines
From July 01 to 04, 2026, the delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City attended the 21st Presidents' Meeting of the ASEAN Teacher Education Network (AsTEN), the Welcome Dinner and Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony, as well as the 2026 ASEAN Teacher Education Conference (AsTEC 2026) in Cebu City, Philippines.
The program was hosted by Philippine Normal University (PNU) at the Golden Prince Hotel & Suites, Cebu City, with the participation of leaders from AsTEN member universities, educational administrators, experts, and lecturers in the Southeast Asian region.
The delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City included: Prof. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan – President of the University, Rotating Chair of AsTEN; Dr. Hoang Mai Khanh – Director of the Office of Testing, Accreditation and Quality Assurance; Dr. Cao Chau Thuy – Director of the Academic Affairs Office; Dr. Duong Minh Quang – Dean of the Faculty of Education; Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Hong Xuan – Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies; and Dr. Nguyen Thi Hao – Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies.
Within the framework of the program, the 21st AsTEN Presidents' Meeting took place on the afternoon of July 01, 2026, at Alicia Hall 2 & 3, Golden Prince Hotel & Suites. The meeting focused on exchanging directions for the AsTEN network's activities, updating the status of collaborative programs among member universities, and discussing initiatives in teacher education, quality assurance, curriculum development, and strengthening academic connectivity within the ASEAN region.
On the same evening, delegates attended the Welcome Dinner and Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony at Ramon Hall, Golden Prince Hotel & Suites. This was an occasion for member universities to strengthen exchanges, expand cooperation in training, research, faculty and student mobility, and develop joint academic programs.
During the two days of July 02 and 03, 2026, the delegation continued to participate in the 2026 ASEAN Teacher Education Conference (AsTEC 2026). The conference served as an important academic forum for sharing research, experiences, and innovative models in teacher education, digital transformation in education, curriculum development, accreditation and quality assurance, intercultural education, and educational cooperation in the Southeast Asian region.
In the thematic discussion sessions, Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Hong Xuan – Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies actively participated in discussions, contributed opinions to the sub-committees, and shared perspectives from the fields of Asian studies, intercultural education, and academic cooperation within the ASEAN region. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Hong Xuan also proactively connected with representatives from universities within the AsTEN network to seek opportunities for cooperation in training, research, faculty and student mobility, and the implementation of joint academic activities in the coming time.
Following the cooperative activities within the framework of AsTEN, from July 14 to 17, 2026, Dr. Le Thi Sinh Hien – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies will represent the Faculty Management Board to attend a training course on Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Manila, Philippines. This participation demonstrates the spirit of responsibility and commitment of the Faculty of Oriental Studies in accompanying the University to implement regional academic activities, especially in the direction of building and developing the Southeast Asian Studies major in the near future.
The participation of the delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City in the 21st AsTEN Presidents' Meeting and AsTEC 2026 contributes to affirming the University's active role in the regional higher education network. Simultaneously, through speaking engagements, professional discussions, partner connections, and intensive training participation, the University continues to expand opportunities for international cooperation in training, research, quality assurance, and the development of interdisciplinary, integrative, and sustainable education programs.
The program concluded on July 04, 2026, with a tour of Cebu City and the farewell for the delegation.
