Faculty member of the Faculty of Oriental Studies completes academic visit at Kasetsart University (Thailand), contributing to promoting Vietnam – Thailand educational cooperation

From June 29, 2026 to July 10, 2026, Truong Vy Khang, M.A., a lecturer at the Thai Studies Section, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, conducted an academic visit to the Faculty of Humanities and the Center for Research in Humanities and Applied Social Sciences at Kasetsart University (Thailand) at the invitation of the partner institution. The visit took place during the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (1976–2026), contributing to strengthening academic cooperation and connectivity between higher education institutions of the two countries.

Within the program's framework, on July 1, 2026, M.A. Truong Vy Khang delivered a lecture on the topic “The World of Thai BL in Vietnam”, analyzing the phenomenon of Thai Boys’ Love (BL) films from an interdisciplinary perspective, combining research on culture, media, and contemporary society. The lecture attracted a large number of lecturers, researchers, Ph.D. students, and students, creating a forum for discussions on Thailand's content industry and the spread of Thai popular culture in Southeast Asia.

In addition, M.A. Truong Vy Khang participated in professional exchange sessions, discussed research directions, and conducted field surveys with scholars from Kasetsart University under the coordination of Prof. Natthanai Prasannam, Ph.D. These activities opened up many prospects for research cooperation, scientific publication, and the development of joint projects between the two units in the near future.

Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Hong Xuan, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and Vice President of the Vietnam – Thailand Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “2026 is a special milestone in Vietnam – Thailand relations. Besides economic cooperation, education and scientific research are increasingly asserting their roles as important bridges between the two nations. M.A. Truong Vy Khang's business trip not only demonstrates the international integration capacity of the lecturers of the Faculty of Oriental Studies but also contributes to promoting academic diplomacy, strengthening connections between scientists and higher education institutions of Vietnam and Thailand. I believe that such practical cooperation activities will continue to cultivate friendship and expand opportunities for research, training, and academic exchange between the two countries.”

The visit is a testament to the orientation of internationalizing education and promoting academic diplomacy of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, while also contributing to strengthening the cooperative relationship between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNUHCM and Kasetsart University, as well as between Vietnam and Thailand in the 50th anniversary year of establishing diplomatic relations, aiming to build a cohesive and sustainable ASEAN Community.
