Announcement of the 40th Gendai Gakusei Hyakunin Isshu (One Hundred Poems of Modern Students) Poetry Writing Contest by Toyo University, Japan

The University would like to inform the Departments of the 40th Gendai Gakusei Hyakunin Isshu (One Hundred Poems of Modern Students) Poetry Writing Contest as follows:
1. Submission deadline: October 7, 2026.
2. Theme: Expressing perspectives on daily life, emotions, etc.
3. Participants: University students.
4. Rules:
- Compose a Tanka poem in Japanese;
- The entry must be the author's original work and must not have been previously published;
- Entries submitted to other Tanka poetry contests or containing significant overlap with previously published works will be disqualified;
- Note: Entries must not be submitted to other contests or posted on social media, and the use of Generative AI during the composition process is prohibited.
5. How to participate:
Candidates submit their entries according to the Organizing Committee's form: https://www.toyo.ac.jp/issyu40/i. There is no limit to the number of Tanka poems submitted; however, only one poem per candidate will be selected.
6. Results announcement:
- Award-winning poems will be announced on the Toyo University website on January 15, 2027;
- Award-winning authors will be notified in advance, expected between early December 2026 and mid-December 2026.
7. Notes:
- Copyright belongs to Toyo University;
- Award-winning works will be published along with the author's name, university, level of study, and academic year;
- Award-winning works (including information: author's full name, university name, level of study, academic year, age) will be printed in a book and sent to relevant units;
- Information and works may be used for press releases, academic research, and published in magazines, newspapers, and media outlets;
- Personal information collected by Toyo University during the reception and processing of entries will not be used for any purpose other than those stated above;
- The Organizing Committee is not responsible for any copyright disputes or other legal issues that may arise.
