Vietnam Studies Collection - Publication celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Faculty (1998-2013)
Vietnam Studies Collection gathers a number of scientific articles by the lecturers of the Faculty of Vietnam Studies. This is a publication celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Faculty's establishment (1998-2013).
15 years is not a long time compared to the history of a faculty, but for many lecturers, trainees, and students of the Faculty of Vietnam Studies, this is a very meaningful period. From a faculty with a team of about 10 people tasked with teaching Vietnamese to foreigners, the Faculty of Vietnam Studies has now become a strong unit of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, responsible for training Vietnam Studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as teaching Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese and foreigners.
Just two years after its establishment, in 2000, the Faculty trained its first bachelor's degree cohort in Vietnam Studies with foreigners as the target enrollment. Ten cohorts with about 300 students have graduated. The scale in 2013 was nearly 200 students. Every year, the Faculty also welcomes hundreds of international students under 2+2 and 3+1 joint training programs between the Faculty and universities around the world. In 2011, the Vietnam Studies training program was recognized by the ASEAN University Network (AUN) as meeting the AUN-QA standard. This is the first program of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to achieve this standard.
In 2007, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City allowed the Faculty to train at the Master's level in Vietnam Studies. To date, 20 students have successfully defended their master's theses. The training scale in 2013 was 100 students, of which 20% were foreigners.
Each year, the Faculty of Vietnam Studies also teaches Vietnamese and issues related to Vietnam Studies to about 3,500 trainees who are overseas Vietnamese and foreigners from 73 countries around the world.
With a team of 31 full-time lecturers and staff, including 6 associate professors - PhDs, 11 PhDs, 13 master's degree holders, and nearly 30 contract lecturers, the Faculty has trained nearly 40,000 students and trainees; many of whom are currently working in the fields of diplomacy, education, economics... in Vietnam and many places around the world such as South Korea, Japan, the United States, China, Taiwan, Thailand, France, Turkey, Russia, Turkmenistan, Australia, etc.
Besides teaching, the Faculty's lecturers are very interested in research activities. The research topics of the lecturers are quite diverse because Vietnam Studies is an interdisciplinary science. Many issues regarding the culture, language, history, etc., of the Vietnamese people and ethnic minorities living in Vietnam have been surveyed. In particular, research on Vietnamese and teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language is emphasized. The articles included in this collection are new publications by the scientists and lecturers of the Faculty in the last few years.
