Faculty of Oriental Studies successfully organizes professional seminar: "Vietnam – Australia Trade Relations: Approaches from Macro Perspective and Vietnamese Studies Viewpoint"
On the morning of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Faculty of Oriental Studies successfully organized its regular professional seminar themed “Vietnam – Australia Trade Relations: Approaches from Macro Perspective and Vietnamese Studies Viewpoint”. The program took place from 09:00 to 10:30 via Google Meet, attracting a large number of participants from the Faculty's teaching staff.
The seminar was honored by the attendance and moderation of Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan – Head of Oriental Studies Department.
Speaker in charge of the thematic report: M.A. Le Dang Thao Uyen – Head of Australian Studies Section.
Opening the session, under the moderation and guidance of Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, M.A. Le Dang Thao Uyen delivered a comprehensive and insightful report. The report not only analyzed the systematic development milestones in bilateral trade relations from 1973 to the present but also raised strategic issues:
Comparing the "Three-legged stool" strategy: Analyzing Australia's position as a "safe and high-quality link" providing clean inputs (coal, ore, cotton, wheat) alongside the Chinese and American markets.
Structural shift & development mindset: From exporting raw resources (crude oil) to technology products and deep-processed goods (machinery, electrical equipment, high-quality agricultural and aquatic products).
Approaching from the Vietnamese Studies perspective: Assessing the role of "social capital" with over 31,000 international students and a community of over 300,000 overseas Vietnamese in Australia, along with new cooperation orientations regarding essential minerals, green energy, and Net Zero commitments.
The seminar took place in an extremely vibrant and open atmosphere. Participating lecturers actively interacted, discussed, and asked many multi-dimensional questions surrounding import-export structure, technical barriers, and methods for integrating these practical research findings into the curriculum of related subjects.
Concluding the session, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan highly appreciated the quality of the report and emphasized that this is a regular strategic professional activity of the Faculty of Oriental Studies aimed at:
Enhancing research capacity: Creating a prestigious academic forum for lecturers to update new knowledge and publish potential research directions.
Strengthening professional networking: Creating a space for sharing, objective critique, and mutual learning among departments.
Linking teaching with practice: Helping classroom lectures always keep up with the latest socio-economic and diplomatic movements.
