Faculty of Oriental Studies welcomes Assist. Prof. Dr. Hou Zhe from the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences
To enhance international cooperation, promote academic exchange, and expand the research network with prestigious partners in the region, the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City met and worked with Dr. Hou Zhe from the Institute of Chinese Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), China.
The working session was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan – Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, along with lecturers from the Faculty. At the meeting, the two sides discussed research orientations, areas of mutual interest, and opportunities for cooperation in scientific research, scholar exchange, and organizing academic activities in the near future.
Dr. Hou Zhe is an expert in the fields of international relations, policy studies, and cultural studies. During the research period in Vietnam from June 2026 to June 2027, Dr. Hou Zhe will focus on a project regarding the development of Chinese Studies and the process of knowledge production about China in Vietnamese research and educational institutions. The research will be implemented through academic exchange activities, interviews with scholars, surveys, and work at universities and research institutes across various regions of Vietnam.
Through this project, Dr. Hou Zhe hopes to contribute to deepening understanding between the Vietnamese and Chinese academic communities, while promoting research cooperation and academic exchange between the two countries' research institutions.
During her tenure at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Dr. Hou Zhe will participate in in-depth research activities with the Faculty's research groups, utilize learning materials and resources for research, and engage in discussions, seminars, scientific meetings, and guest lectures for faculty members, graduate students, and students. This is an opportunity for the faculty and learners to access new perspectives on Chinese studies, update international research trends, and strengthen academic exchange with foreign researchers.
Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan highly valued the significance of the scholar exchange program, emphasizing that hosting Dr. Hou Zhe not only contributes to improving the quality of research and training at the Faculty of Oriental Studies but also creates a premise for building long-term cooperation programs with the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences in research, training, and international scientific publications.
The meeting took place in an open, cordial, and effective atmosphere, marking the beginning of Dr. Hou Zhe's one-year research exchange program at the Faculty of Oriental Studies. The program is expected to contribute to strengthening academic connections between Vietnamese and Chinese researchers while promoting the internationalization of the Faculty's research and training activities in the coming time.
